ABSTRACT

The introduction of exogenous lipids in the production of infant formula induces significant alterations in milk lipid composition, content, and membrane structure, thus affecting the lipid digestion, absorption, and utilization. This study meticulously tracks these changes throughout the manufacturing process. Pasteurization has a significant effect on phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin in the outer membrane, decreasing their relative contents to total polar lipids from 12.52% and 17.34% to 7.72% and 12.59%, respectively. Subsequent processes, including bactericidal-concentration and spray-drying, demonstrate the thermal stability of sphingomyelin and ceramides, while glycerolipids with arachidonic acid/docosahexaenoic acid and glycerophospholipids, particularly phosphatidylethanolamine, diminish significantly. Polar lipids addition and freeze-drying technology significantly enhance the polar lipid content and improve microscopic morphology of infant formula. These findings reveal the diverse effects of technological processes on glycerolipid and polar lipid compositions, concentration, and ultrastructure in infant formulas, thus offering crucial insights for optimizing lipid content and structure within infant formula.

ABSTRACT

Assembling macroscopic helices with controllable chirality and understanding their formation mechanism are highly desirable but challenging tasks for artificial systems, especially coordination polymers. Here, we utilize solvents as an effective tool to induce the formation of macroscopic helices of chiral coordination polymers (CPs) and manipulate their helical sense. We chose the Ni/R-,S-BrpempH2 system with a one-dimensional tubular structure, where R-,S-BrpempH2 stands for R-,S-(1-(4-bromophenyl)ethylaminomethylphosphonic acid). The morphology of the self-assemblies can be controlled by varying the cosolvent in water, resulting in the formation of twisted ribbons of R-,S-Ni(Brpemp)(H2O)·H2O (R-,S-2T) in pure H2O; needle-like crystals of R-,S-Ni(Brpemp)(H2O)2·1/3CH3CN (R-,S-1C) in 20 vol % CH3CN/H2O; nanofibers of R-,S-Ni(Brpemp)(H2O)·H2O (R-,S-3F) in 20-40 vol % methanol/H2O or ethanol/H2O; and superhelices of R-,S-Ni(Brpemp)(H2O)·H2O (R-,S-4H or 5H) in 40 vol % propanol/H2O. Interestingly, the helicity of the superhelix can be controlled by using a propanol isomer in water. For the Ni/R-BrpempH2 system, a left-handed superhelix of R-4H(M) was obtained in 40 vol % NPA/H2O, while a right-handed superhelix of R-5H(P) was isolated in 40 vol % IPA/H2O. These results were rationalized by theoretical calculations. Adsorption studies revealed the chiral recognition behavior of these compounds. This work may contribute to the development of chiral CPs with a macroscopic helical morphology and interesting functionalities.

ABSTRACT

Inspired by natural biological systems, chiral or handedness inversion by altering external and internal conditions to influence intermolecular interactions is an attractive topic for regulating chiral self-assembled materials. For coordination polymers, the regulation of their helical handedness remains little reported compared to polymers and supramolecules. In this work, we choose the chiral ligands R-pempH2 (pempH2 = (1-phenylethylamino)methylphosphonic acid) and R-XpempH2 (X = F, Cl, Br) as the second ligand, which can introduce C-H⋯π and C-H⋯X interactions, doped into the reaction system of the Tb(R-cyampH)3·3H2O (cyampH2 = (1-cyclohexylethylamino)methylphosphonic acid) coordination polymer, which itself can form a right-handed superhelix by van der Waals forces, and a series of superhelices R-1H-x, R-2F-x, R-3Cl-x, and R-4Br-x with different doping ratios x were obtained, whose handedness is related to the second ligand and its doping ratio, indicating the decisive role of interchain interactions of different strengths in the helical handedness. This study could provide a new pathway for the design and self-assembly of chiral materials with controllable handedness and help the further understanding of the mechanism of self-assembly of coordination polymers forming macroscopic helical systems.

ABSTRACT

In April 2022, leaf rust disease of Parthenocissus semicordata was discovered in the urban greenbelt in Guangzhou city, China (23.06°N, 113.16°E). The disease incidence was 70% and disease severity was 75%. Chlorotic spots and red-brown necrotic flecks were present on the upper surface of infected leaves, and orange uredinia were distributed on the lower surface (Fig. 1 a-c). Two representative disease plants were collected as voucher specimens and dried, then deposited in Mycological Herbarium of the Zhongkai University of Agriculture and Engineering (MHZU GR0413, MHZU GR0414). Microscopic examination of the pustules of the samples revealed the presence of uredial paraphyses and urediniospores (Fig.1 d-f). Uredial paraphyses were hyaline, incurved, length 20-25 µm and dorsal wall 4.5-8.5 µm thick. Urediniospores were subglobose to ovoid, 16-24.5 × 10.5-17 µm. The wall of the urediniospore was hyaline or pale yellow, echinulate, and 1.0-2.0 µm thick. Telial structures were not observed. The morphological characteristics of uredial paraphyses and urediniospores were consistent with Yoshitaka's description of Neophysopella vitis (Yoshitaka 2000). Ten uredinia were picked using a sterile tweezer and the FlaPure Plant DNA Extraction Kit (Genesand Biotech Co., Ltd) was used to extract genomic DNA. Primers ITS4-rust (5'-CAGATTACAAATTTGGGCT-3') /ITS 5u (5'-CAAGGTTTCTGTAGGTG-3') were used to amplify internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and Rust2inv (5'-GATGAAGAACACAGTGAAA-3') /LR6 (5'-CGCCAGTTCTGCTTACC-3') to amplify large subunit (LSU) rDNA regions (Zhao et al. 2021). The sequences were submitted to NCBI (ITS: OQ991182 OQ991183, LSU: OQ979612 OQ979613), and blastn analyses of ITS and LSU showed 99.81% and 99.84% identity with the sequences from N. vitis (ITS: OQ304336, LSU: OM420266), respectively, found in GenBank. ITS combined with LSU sequences from the current study and reference sequences from Zhao et al. (2021) were used to construct Maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI) phylogenetic trees using CIPRES website. ML and BI phylogenetic trees showed that the sequences from the current study grouped with N. vitis, with bootstrap support and posterior probability of 98% and 1.0, respectively (Fig. 2). Morphological and molecular analyses confirmed that the rust fungus was N. vitis. In the pathogenicity test, urediniospores were picked from fresh diseased leaves with sterile tweezers, prepared into spore suspensions (1.0 × 106 urediniospores/ml), and sprayed on a one-week-old leaf from three healthy of potted plants of P. semicordata, while three other healthy leaves were sprayed with sterile water as control. Each treated leaf was wrapped in a plastic bag and incubated in the dark at 25℃ for 48 h after which plastic bags were removed and the plant were moved to a greenhouse at 25℃. At 15 days after inoculation, symptoms and the morphology of urediniospores were confirmed to be the same as those observed in the field collection and no symptoms or uredinia were observed in the control group (Fig.1 g, h). Yoshitaka first discovered leaf rust on P. semicordata caused by N. vitis in Nepal(Yoshitaka 2000). To our knowledge, this is the first report of N. vitis causing leaf rust on P. semicordata in China. P. semicordata is often used as an ornamental plant for exterior wall decoration in urban landscaping and court. The occurrence of this disease can lead to the decline of the P. semicordata leaves and the impairment of the plants aesthetically.

ABSTRACT

Aristolochic acids (AAs) have long been considered as a potent carcinogen due to its nephrotoxicity. Aristolochic acid I (AAI) reacts with DNA to form covalent aristolactam (AL)-DNA adducts, leading to subsequent A to T transversion mutation, commonly referred as AA mutational signature. Previous research inferred that AAs were widely implicated in liver cancer throughout Asia. In this study, we explored whether AAs exposure was the main cause of liver cancer in the context of HBV infection in mainland China. Totally 1256 liver cancer samples were randomly retrieved from 3 medical centers and a refined bioanalytical method was used to detect AAI-DNA adducts. 5.10% of these samples could be identified as AAI positive exposure. Whole genome sequencing suggested 8.41% of 107 liver cancer patients exhibited the dominant AA mutational signature, indicating a relatively low overall AAI exposure rate. In animal models, long-term administration of AAI barely increased liver tumorigenesis in adult mice, opposite from its tumor-inducing role when subjected to infant mice. Furthermore, AAI induced dose-dependent accumulation of AA-DNA adduct in target organs in adult mice, with the most detected in kidney instead of liver. Taken together, our data indicate that AA exposure was not the major threat of liver cancer in adulthood.

ABSTRACT

Helical architectures with controllable helical sense bias have recently attracted considerable interest for mimicking biological helices and developing novel chiral materials. Coordination polymers (CPs), composed of metal ion nodes and organic linkers, are intriguing systems showing tunable structures and functions. However, CPs with helical morphologies have rarely been explored so far. Particularly, chirality inversion through external stimulus has not been achieved in helical CPs. In this work, we carried out an in-depth investigation on the self-assembly of 1D gadolinium(III) phosphonate CPs using GdX3 (X=Cl, Br, I) and Gd(RSO3 ) (R=CH3 , C6 H5 , CF3 ) as metal sources and R-(1-phenylethylamino)methyl phosphonic acid (R-pempH2 ) as ligand. Superhelices were formed by precise control of the interchain interactions through different intercalated anions. Furthermore, the twisting direction of superhelices could be controlled by synergistic effect of anions and pH. This study may provide a new route to fabricate helical nanostructures of CPs with a desirable chiral sense and help understand the inner mechanism of the self-assembly process of macroscopic helical structures of molecular systems.

Nanotubular materials have garnered considerable attention since the discovery of carbon nanotubes. Although the layer-to-tube rolling up mechanism has been well recognized in explaining the formation of many inorganic nanotubes, it has not been generally applied to coordination polymers (CPs). To uncover the key factors that determine the rolling-up of layered CPs, we have chosen the Co/R-, S-Xpemp [Xpemp = (4-X-1-phenylethylamino)methylphosphonic acid, X = H, F, Cl, Br] systems and study how the weak interactions influence the formation of layered or tubular structures. Four pairs of homochiral isostructural compounds R-, S-Co(Xpemp)(H2O)2 [X = H (1H), F (2F), Cl (3Cl), Br (4Br)] were obtained with tubular structures. The inclusion of 3,3'-azobipyridine (ABP) guest molecules led to compounds R-, S-[Co(Xpemp)(H2O)2]4·ABP·H2O with layered structures when X was Cl (5Cl) and Br (6Br), but tubular compounds 1H and 2F when X was H and F. Layered structures were also obtained for racemic compounds meso-Co(Xpemp)(H2O)2 [X = F (7F), Cl (8Cl), Br (9Br)] using racemic XpempH2 as the reaction precursor, but not when X = H. A detailed study on R-6Br revealed that layer-to-tube transformation occurred upon removal of ABP under hydrothermal conditions, forming R-4Br with a tubular structure. Similar layer-to-tube conversion did not occur in organic solvents. The results demonstrate that weak interlayer interactions are a prerequisite but not sufficient for the rolling-up of the layers. In the present cases, water also provides a driving force in the layer-to-tube transformation. The experimental results were rationalized by theoretical calculations.

ABSTRACT

Chiral transcription from the molecular level to the macroscopic level by self-organization has been a topic of considerable interest for mimicking biological systems. Homochiral coordination polymers (CPs) are intriguing systems that can be applied in the construction of artificial helical architectures, but they have scarcely been explored to date. Herein, we propose a new strategy for the generation of superhelices of 1D CPs by introducing flexible cyclohexyl groups on the side chains to simultaneously induce interchain van der Waals interactions and chain misalignment due to conformer interconversion. Superhelices of S- or R-Tb(cyampH)3·3H2O (S-1H, R-1H) [cyampH2 = S- or R-(1-cyclohexylethyl)aminomethylphosphonic acid] were obtained successfully, the formation of which was found to follow a new type of "chain-twist-growth" mechanism that had not been described previously. The design strategy used in this work may open a new and general route to the hierarchical assembly and synthesis of helical CP materials.

This study was conducted to explore the molecular mechanisms of berberine (Ber) via peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARG) in promoting in vitro maturation (IVM) and lipid metabolism of porcine oocytes. Our results showed that expression changes in PPARG influenced IVM and the lipid droplet content of porcine oocytes. Moreover, c-Jun-N-terminal kinase (JNK) inhibitor modified the effect of PPARG agonist on IVM and lipid droplet content of porcine oocytes, and Ber significantly reduced lipid droplet content. Activation of PPARG upregulated the transcription level of microRNA-192 (miR-192), significantly promoted the expression of fatty acid binding protein 3 (FABP3) and steroid regulatory element binding transcription factor 1 (SREBF1) and PPARG, inhibited phosphorylation of PPARG, and enhanced JNK phosphorylation. Ber and overexpression of miR-192 upregulated the transcription level of miR-192 in porcine oocytes; significantly decreased the expression of FABP3, SREBF1, and PPARG; increased PPARG phosphorylation; and inhibited JNK phosphorylation. Otherwise, JNK inhibitor reduced the effects of PPARG agonist. In conclusion, Ber may activate the expression of miR-192, downregulate the expression level of PPARG and lipid synthesis-related genes, increase PPARG phosphorylation, and reduce JNK phosphorylation to enhance lipid metabolism, which is beneficial to improve porcine oocyte quality of IVM.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To investigate the clinical outcomes, including survival and periapical healing rates and failure causes, of root canal treatment for patients with periapical lesion. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted which enrolled patients admitted for the evaluation and management of periapical lesion with root canal treatment. The primary predictor variables were difficulty assessment of root canal therapy (DARCT),which was divided into lower(DARCT =3-4), medium (DARCT =5-7) and higher (DARCT =8-9) difficulty root canal, in terms of canal length, curvature and calcification. The primary outcome measurement was the incidence of periapical healing and survival rate. Potential confounders included patient demographics, canal number, root canal filling, and coronal restoration. SPSS 21.0 software package was used for data analysis. RESULTS: The 5-year survival rate was 81.4%(83/102) and healing rate was 77.1% (64/83). DARCT was significantly associated with the survival rate(P=0.017). Root fracture, deep pockets lesions and periodontal abscess were observed in DARCT with a value of 8-9(P=0.027), leading to tooth extraction. The teeth with multiple root canals were extracted due to recurrent or persistent periapical lesion (P=0.004). Chi-square test showed that root canal number (P=0.021), quality of root canal filling (P=0.006) as well as DARCT (P=0.000) were significantly correlated with the final healing rate. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that DARCT (P=0.000) and the quality of root canal filling (P=0.033) were associated with the final healing rate. CONCLUSIONS: DARCT and the quality of root canal filling play key roles in the clinical prognosis of periapical lesion, DARCT and number of root canal are more likely to be correlated with failure.

Metal-organic frameworks containing responsive organic linkers are attractive for potential applications in sensors and molecular devices. Herein we report three cobalt(II) phosphonates incorporating responsive dianthracene linkers, namely, Co2 (amp2 H2 )2 (H2 O)4 ⋅ 6H2 O (MDAF-1), Co2 (amp2 )(H2 O)4 ⋅ 2H2 O (MDAF-2) and Co(amp2 H2 ) ⋅ 2H2 O ⋅ 0.5DMF (MDAF-3), where amp2 H4 is pre-photodimerized 9-anthrylmethylphosphonic acid. MDAF-1 shows a layer structure in which dinuclear Co2 (PO3 H)2 units are inter-connected by dianthracene ligands. In MDAF-2 and MDAF-3, inorganic chains of corner-sharing {CoO4 } (or {CoO6 }) and {PO3 C} are cross-linked by dianthracene ligands into 3D frameworks. All compounds underwent thermo-induced phase transitions, first the de-solvation and then the de-dimerization of dianthracene (as well as the release of the remaining solvent molecules for MDAF-2 and -3), associated with magnetic changes. MDAF-1 can be exfoliated into single-layer nanosheets in water which show light-triggered luminescent changes.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: 25 flavors of the turquoise pill, a traditional Tibetan medicine for the treatment of various types of hepatitis, has not been investigated on its safety, especially the component mineral turquoise, which is believed to be essential but worried for its potential toxicity. AIM OF THE STUDY: To explore the potential acute toxicity and function of 25 flavors of the turquoise pill and turquoise, the possible mechanism of the effects of turquoise and 25 flavors of the turquoise pill were systematically studied based on 1H NMR metabolomics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The rats were administered with turquoise and 25 flavors of the turquoise pill by gavage for 7 days, and samples of serum, liver, and kidney were collected. The potential toxicity and function of turquoise and 25 flavors of the turquoise pill on the liver and kidney of SD rats were evaluated by 1H NMR metabonomics, histopathology, and biochemical indexes. RESULTS: The results demonstrated that 25 flavors of the turquoise pill could scavenge free oxygen radicals, strengthen aerobic respiration and inhibit glycolysis in the liver. It did not cause oxidative stress in the kidney with no obvious damage. By modulation of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), 25 flavors of the turquoise pill can improve the utilization of glucose and promote aerobic respiration of the kidney. CONCLUSION: Considering the high dosage and short duration used in this study relative to their typical clinical usage, administration of 25 flavors of the turquoise pill and its component mineral turquoise are safe to livers and kidneys.

BACKGROUND: Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEPs) have been widely monitored to prevent hearing loss (HL) during microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm (HFS); however, their predictive value is still unclear. The aim of this study is to investigate the predictive values of the maximum changes in BAEPs and define the best warning indicator and a cutoff value (CV) during HFS-MVD. METHODS: The clinical data of 93 HFS-MVD patients were retrospectively analysed. The maximum change rates of the latency and amplitude of waves I, III, and V and the interpeak latencies (IPLs) I-III, I-V, and III-V, when BAEPs change most during MVD, were defined. Pure tone audiometry was performed to evaluate hearing loss (HL). Logistic regression, propensity score, receiver operating curve (ROC), and area under the curve (AUC) were used to identify the predictive value of relevant indexes and to determine the CV (with the largest Youden index) of the best index at different levels of HL. RESULTS: The AUCs of BAEPs for predicting HL were 0.98, 0.92, and 0.84 for 50 dB, 30 dB, and 10 dB, respectively. The amplitude of wave V (AwV) was the best single predictive index at all three HL levels. The CV of AwV was 55% (50 dB), 46% (30 dB), and 34% (10 dB). At 50 dB HL, the predictive value of IPLs I-V (AUC 0.89 with CV 0.6 ms) was better than that of LwV (AUC 0.82 with CV 1 ms). CONCLUSION: BAEPs can predict HL well. AwV is the best single predictive index of all BAEPs. The reduction of AwV by 34% (watching), 46% (reporting), and 55% (warning) can be used as a sliding-scale warning sign. In addition, IPLs I-V (> 0.6 ms) and LwV (> 1 ms) should also be observed and reported during MVD.

ABSTRACT

To explore the repair effect of lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) on ovarian injuries induced by repeated superovulation in mice, a model of ovarian injury was established, and ovarian repair was assessed after intragastric administration of LBP. The oocyte quality and blastocyst rates of pronuclear embryos in vitro were observed. The levels of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and lipid peroxide (LPO) in ovarian tissue were measured, and ovarian damage was assessed in paraffin sections. The groups with significant injury were selected according to the above observation, mice in the significant injury group were intragastrically administered with LBP (low dose, 25 mg/kg; medium dose, 35 mg/kg; and high dose, 45 mg/kg) for 30 days. The above measurements and anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) expression were detected in the mouse ovaries and the breeding verification was carried out. Our results showed that repeated superovulation could cause mouse oocyte quality to drop, significant differences started from 4 superovulation events (P < 0.05). The levels of 8-OHdG and LPO in the ovary increased gradually as the number of superovulation events increased, and significant differences were observed after 4-6 superovulations (P < 0.05). The ratios of primordial follicles, primary, tertiary and mature follicles decreased and the ratio of atresia follicles increased as the number of superovulation events increased, especially in 4-6 superovulation groups. Thus, the groups of superovulation 4-6 events were considered as significant injury groups. LBP-medium dose groups significantly improved the number and quantity of oocytes and embryo blastocyst rate (P < 0.05), significantly decreased 8-OHdG and LPO levels in mice ovary (P < 0.05), also improved the ratios of all stages follicles and reduced the rate of atresia follicles, increased the numbers of litter size, live birth, weaning survival, and repaired the expression of AMH in ovary significantly (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the degree of ovarian injury was affected by the number of superovulation. LBP repaired ovarian injuries most likely through scavenging oxidative products 8-OHdG and LPO and increasing AMH protein expression.

ABSTRACT

Family support is an important protective factor for pregnant women with a foetal abnormality and can prevent adverse psychological outcomes in this population. This study aimed to explore the importance and influencing factors of family support for pregnant women with foetal abnormalities requiring pregnancy termination and then determine the correlation between family support and women's post-traumatic stress symptoms. A mixed methods study was conducted from March 2016 to September 2017. In all, 214 participants were surveyed using self-reported questionnaires including the demographic, family and obstetric information questionnaire, the Family Adaptation Partnership Growth Affection and Resolve Index and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised to collect quantitative data. Semi-structured in-depth interviews with 28 participants were conducted to collect qualitative data. Of the pregnant women with foetal abnormalities, 35% had obstacles in family function such that family support was low. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised score was negatively associated with total score on the Family Adaptation Partnership Growth Affection and Resolve Index as well as the score for each item on this index. In terms of family support, the demographic, family and obstetric variables hierarchically entered into the regression models significantly explained 20.0%, 26.5% and 2.6% of variation, respectively. In addition, three key themes were identified based on qualitative analyses: intensified instrumental support, inadequate emotional support and insufficient informational support. The findings showed that family support plays a protective role in preventing post-traumatic stress symptoms following termination of pregnancy. At present, family support still needs to be improved, especially in emotional support and informational support. The factors influencing family support may be important to consider for improving family support.

ABSTRACT

Artificial smart materials with switchable multifunctionality are of immense interest owing to their wide application in sensors, displays and memory devices. Lanthanide complexes are promising multifunctional materials integrating optical and magnetic characteristics. However, synergistic manipulation of different physical properties in lanthanide systems is still challenging. Herein we designed and synthesized a mononuclear complex [DyIII(SCN)3(depma)2(4-hpy)2] (1), which incorporates 9-diethylphosphonomethylanthracene (depma) as a photo-active component and 4-hydroxypyridine (4-hpy) as a polar component. This compound shows several unusual features: (a) reversible thermo-responsive phase transition associated with the order-disorder transition of 4-hpy and SCN-, which leads to thermochromic behavior and dielectric anomaly; (b) reversible photo-induced dimerization of anthracene groups, which leads to synergistic switching of luminescence, magnetic and dielectric properties. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example of lanthanide complexes that show stimuli-triggered synergistic and reversible switching of luminescence, magnetic and dielectric properties.

ABSTRACT

The present study explored the effect of parent-child relationship on Smartphone Use Disorder (SUD) and the mediating role of quality of life (QOL). In addition, we explored the role of educational level from the developmental psychology perspective. Our results indicate that: (1) parent-child relationship could negatively predict SUD among adolescents; (2) QOL played a partial mediator role in the relationship between parent-child relationship and SUD; (3) As educational level increased from elementary school to middle school to high school, the effect of parent-child relationship on QOL weakened. This study showed that adolescents with good parent-child relationship had a higher QOL thus exhibiting a lower extent of SUD. Moreover, the link between parent-child relationship and SUD weakened as the educational level increased.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Smartphone use disorder in youth was associated with severe physical, psychological, and financial problems. Based on the ecological system theory of child development, this study examined a wide range of psychosocial characteristics in elementary-, middle-, and high-school adolescents with high scores on smartphone use disorder. METHODOLOGY: Existing research, which mainly adopted regression-based analytical techniques, found that gender, self-control, sensation seeking, loneliness, anxiety, perceived parent-adolescent relationship, and perceived parental monitoring are associated with smartphone use disorder. To complement traditional variable-centered approaches, the current study adopted a person-centered approach, fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) procedures, to examine adolescents with smartphone use disorder. RESULTS: The fsQCA procedure revealed four, nine, and thirteen distinct configurations that contributed to smartphone use disorder in adolescents for elementary school students, middle school students, and high school students respectively. A comparison across the three educational levels revealed four differences and two similarities. The results suggest that different groups of adolescents might be at risk for smartphone use disorder across the three educational levels. CONCLUSIONS: The fsQCA procedures generated solutions with satisfactory coverage and consistency. This demonstrates the promising value of fsQCA for researching smartphone use disorder and other behavior problems in adolescents. The results suggest that educators and mental health practitioners should consider educational level when helping adolescents with smartphone use disorder.
